Heartworm Prevention

dreamstime_13375053It’s mosquito season again here in North Texas and that means your pets are at risk of Heartworm infection.  That’s because heartworm larvae develop inside infected mosquitoes for part of their life cycle.  Once a pet is bitten by an infected mosquito, it can take up to 6 months for the larvae to mature into adult heartworms.  Since prevention is much easier than treatment for your pets as well as your wallet, it’s important to give your pets their monthly dose.

New Look, New Ways to Connect

You may have noticed the updated webpage.  We are pleased to announce our new look and launch a few new tools to help you stay in touch with us at Westgate Pet Hospital.  You can now find us on Facebook and get pet health tips via Twitter!

Groomer’s Corner

This month’s tip is to play with your dogs paws on a regular basis.  This will make it much easier to give pedicures.  One great way to have fun while getting your dog used to people handling his paws is to train him to shake hands or play pat-a-cake.

Don’t forget to handle those back paws too.  Treating your pet to a good belly-rub can get him in position for some paw-touching practice.

Tell us what you think!

We’d love to hear from you…leave a comment, post on our Facebook wall, or just call.  Let us know what you like (or not) about the new website.
